Disabled Accessible Modifications
| |||
|
Accessible Modifications/Remodeling. Custom Renovation provides accessible remodeling services enabling persons with physical disabilities to live their lives at home as independently as possible. For some, access may be as simple as adding grab bars, tub seat and handicapped toilet. For wheel chair users, access may require ramping entrances, widening doorways, lowering counters, installing a roll-in shower, a handicapped toilet, non slip floor covering, adding lever style hardware to doors and drawers, and modifying storage areas with adjustable rods and shelves. Each modification is designed to make a specific room or area usable by the occupant.

Wheel Chair Accessible Kitchen
|
||
|
Example.
This kitchen required new cabinets to be lowered for wheel chair use.
Below counter storage was more important for the owner than under
counter access. This homeowner elected to keep existing appliances and
the existing vinyl floor covering.
Before the 1970's standard height (36") cabinets and countertops which we removed. Wheel Chair Accessible picture. The new thermal foil cabinets viewed at wheel chair height. The dishwasher cabinet section remained 36" high. The sink and adjoining counter was lowered to 30" (table height). Drawers and a pull out work table (breadboard) are included in the cabinet base. On the back wall we installed a fold down work table 30" form the floor and a wall hung cabinet low enough to be reached from a wheel chair. |

|
Example. The owner wanted this bathroom remodeled for wheelchair access and to make room for a roll-in fiberglass shower. This eliminates existing barriers to wheelchair access and permits easy shower entry and safe usage by the owner. Before. We removed a 32" bathroom door, a 32" shower and two partition walls to make this room wheel chair accessible. During Remodel. The existing shower and partition walls have been removed. The water supply and drain will be moved to fit the new 5' fiberglass roll-in/transfer shower.

After. The remodeled wheelchair accessible bathroom viewed from doorway at wheelchair height. The new fiberglass shower is a modular sandwich-wall construction 60" roll-in/transfer shower. This unit has a heavy-duty support plate built into the anti-slip shower floor. The shower is recessed into the floor, does not require access ramping, has a hand held shower on a glide bar, and has an "L" shaped 1 1/4" stainless steel grab bar. Nonslip sheet flooring is commercial grade, has superior slip-retardant performance, wet or dry, easy cleanibility, and excellent wear resistance. In addition, we installed a 30" high custom vanity and widened the bathroom door to 36" allowing easy wheel chair access.
